We have stayed at the Boathouse before in April & October so thought a summer visit would be good. Showers most days, spectacular thunderstorm on Wednesday evening and Force 8-9 gales today (Thursday)!
The Boathouse is an excellent base to explore the lovely old town of Rye and surrounding area.
Visit Dungeness for a different day out. Views from the top of the Old Lighthouse are great, travel on the RH&D R 13 mile steam train route or walk on the miles of sandy beach at Greatstone or visit the RSPB reserve. Then buy the best fresh fish at the slab opposite the Pilot Inn.
Dungeness, you will either love it or hate it but you will never forget it!
For lunch take the road by the canal to Appledore. The Black Lion is a lovely village pub with excellent value sandwiches & ploughmans.

We have had a great week at the Boathouse! The fizz got us off to a good start thank you. The apartment has been very comfortable and peaceful a real haven. We have enjoyed trips to Hastings Country Park, where we enjoyed a walk and picnic in a beautiful location overlooking the sea, Bewl water, again a walk & picnic, and the National Pinetum at Bedgebury. Weather has been good, warm and dry, just right for a walk and picnic. One highlight was our visit to Webbes at The Fish Café in Tower Street. We had an excellent meal best mussels Ive tasted so fresh!

Very restful stay in Rye after walking the 1066 way from Pevensey. Boathouse excellent. Binoculars very much appreciated some good walks/birds at Dungeness and round Camber Castle. Mesmerised by tide spotting & waiting for boats. Many thanks for v.good apartment.

We very much enjoyed our stay.
One of the highlights was watching Richard Branson, supported by his family, kite surf across the channel from Dungeness. Thank you for the binoculars a gem of an accessory! Also the welcome fizz was great!

First time in the area. Great comfy apartment, well equipped. Bailey, Simply Italian and Careys great for food.
In Hastings De Pola on Marine Parade a must for home made Italian ice cream. Great farm shops around Middle Farm on route to Brighton (never seen so much cider!) Train from Dungeness to Hythe very good with an interesting stop at New Romney to see the model train display also Kent and East Sussex railway at Tenterden very good trip. One week not long enough to see everything.

What a gem! And Ryes not bad either. We enjoyed our short stay and hope to return, even if its just for the Apothecary coffee. Many thanks for the hospitality and farewell.

We have spent a great week here in Rye. The apartment was a lovely place to stay it is just so peaceful. The weather has been kind to us. Dont bother going to Hastings it has become very run down. We had a very nice day at Dover Castle the underground tunnels were amazing. Lovely coffee at the Apothecary.
Restaurants very varied. Best thing is to try a few!!

Its thirty years since we last visited Rye and it hasnt lost its charm! Try Jeakes House in Mermaid St for a luxurious start to the day breakfast is £12.50 for non-residents.
We explored on foot and picked up the 1066 way by going over the crossing by the station and taking the footpath opposite Mason Road. This takes you to Winchelsea
Wonderful deli & coffee shop, amazing church dear old Spike Milligans buried there. Interesting houses in grid layout. Continued the round trip back to Rye following the Royal Military Canal path past Camber Castle.
The Boathouse itself is in a superb location within walking distance of town and yet no traffic noise amazing!! So peaceful. Delicious bubbly a great start to a lovely weekend. Thankyou.
